See if this sounds familiar -- heading to the store, grabbing some groceries, and stocking up for a week of yum. Then it goes in the fridge, out of sight and out of mind. A month later, you realize you forgot to use that can of Pillsbury biscuits, and now you have to throw them out. We've all been there at some point. I made this app because I myself was constantly finding myself throwing out delicious morsels I could not use anymore. I aim to be a faithful steward of the blessings God has given me, and good food is no exception. With so many expiring groceries to keep up with, and too many going to waste, I knew something had to be done. So I made an app to keep my cabinet in check, and remind me when that salad is going to go bad rather than be unpleasantly informed after the fact. I have already begun reaping the benefits of this handy reminder, and I hope the first product of the FeedWell line of SDG Apps serves you well as you serve your family that delicious chicken casserole. Nothing wasted. Never forgotten. Expire me not!
Quick Usage Tips
The general use flow is as follows: the day of purchasing a product, add information about a the purchase by tapping the plus icon on the main screen. Enter the product's barcode and a general name for the product (it is best to avoid specific terms such as brand or product detail, so for example use Milk instead of Jim's Best 2% Milk). Use the date spinner to input the expiration date. Save the data and the product will be listed in the main screen. A notification will be set to warn the purchase is expiring soon when within 7 days of expiring; another warning is given on its expiration date. The day the purchase is finished, long-press on the purchase's expiration date and press Finish to indicate it has been used and the app should no longer warn about its upcoming expiration.
Specific Screen Details:
Main Screen: The main screen lists all the products you have purchased. Tap a product to view all its purchases. Products are ordered by soonest expiration date of its purchases. A color gradient from green to red visually indicates how far along the product is from the day of purchase (or entry) to expiration. Long-press on a product or purchase entry to view its actions, such as view, edit, delete, or finish. Finishing a purchase indicates you have used it and the app should no longer track its expiration.
Add product purchase screen: "Code" is a unique identifier for the particular purchased product, rather than the more generic and visible product name. In general this is the proof of purchase barcode, but could be any identifier for a particular brand or type of product. When a previously used code is entered into this screen, the associated product name is automatically filled in. Barcode scanner integration is not supported in this version, though it is possible to paste in a code scanned by the camera app.
If the product was not purchased the day of entry, simply uncheck the purchased today checkbox at the bottom. You can enter the correct purchase date by editing the purchase later. Until then, the current day will still be treated as if it were the purchase day.
View product screen: this screen views the product information as well as lists the product's purchases. Like the main screen, purchase-specific actions appear by long-pressing a purchase item.
Edit product screen: this screen allows the name of the product to be changed. This change is reflected across the entire app.
View purchase screen: this screen views the purchase information, featuring a progress bar indicating the percentage between purchase and expiration dates. A statistical Easter egg is hidden on this screen for more power to the adventurous nerds out there.
Edit purchase screen: this screen allows the expiration and purchase date of the product to be changed, as well as the code of the product. The code remains associated to the product name.
